It’s official: you’re a mom! Congratulations! The first few weeks with your new-born can be exhausting, but they are also some of the most special and memorable times of your life.
Here are a few tips to help you survive (and even enjoy) those first few weeks:
- Prep some easy meals in advance. Having some quick and easy meals on hand will save you time and energy when you’re dealing with a new-born.
- Accept all the offers of help. Seriously, people want to help you and they want to meet your new baby. Let them!
- Take a walk each day. Getting some fresh air and some exercise will do you good. Even a short walk around the block will help you clear your head and feel better.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for advice. Whether it’s from your paediatrician, your mom friends, there’s no shame in asking for advice. We’ve all been there!
- Don’t forget to take care of yourself. You’re going to be giving a lot of yourself to your new baby, but don’t forget to take care of yourself, too. Make time for a hot shower, a good meal, and some self-care. You deserve it!
- Enjoy the snuggles. There’s nothing like snuggling up with your new baby. Those first few weeks are the perfect time to just enjoy each other’s company and bond as a family.
- Get some sleep when you can. Those first few weeks can be tough, both emotionally and physically. Make sure to get some rest when you can, even if it means taking a nap during the day.
- Take lots of pictures. The time flies by so quickly and your baby changes so much in those first few weeks. Be sure to document all the special moments so you can look back on them fondly later.
- Trust your gut. You know your baby best, so trust your instincts when it comes to feeding, sleeping, and general care. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to reach out to your paediatrician for advice.
- Have a babymoon: Stay in your pyjamas. Have lots of skin-to-skin contact with your baby. Eat meals you have cooked and frozen already. Stay in bed a lot.
